Own a genuine piece of the USS New Jersey (BB-62) — the most decorated U.S. battleship in history. Launched in December 1942 and commissioned in 1943, "Big J" earned battle honors in World War II and the Korean War, was the only U.S. battleship recalled to service in the Vietnam War to deliver shore bombardment, and was modernized and reactivated during the 1980s for Cold War service. Today she is preserved as the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial on the Delaware River — a living artifact of 20th-century naval power. This salvaged teak plank came from her deck and is an authentic fragment of that storied service.
Why Battleship New Jersey matters:
-
Most decorated U.S. battleship: earned numerous battle stars across multiple wars, a symbol of sustained front-line service.
-
Combat record across eras: saw action in WWII (Pacific operations and Okinawa), returned for Korean War shore bombardment, and was the only battleship sent to Vietnam for naval gunfire support.
-
Powerful armament: originally fitted with nine 16-inch/50 caliber main guns capable of hitting shore targets at long range — one reason she was repeatedly chosen for bombardment duties.
-
Cold War reactivation: modernized and recommissioned in the 1980s (part of the 600-ship buildup), receiving missile systems and upgrades that extended her service into the late 20th century.
