The Dronino meteorite represented a highly significant discovery for researchers, with large samples recovered from the Ryazan Oblast region of Russia since the year 2000. The meteorite is estimated to have fallen around the year 1200, leaving a 30 meter crater. Geologists classify Dronino as an ungrouped Ataxite iron meteorite, meaning it doesn't fit into the known chemical classifications of other irons and contains a high nickel content, giving it a unique place in planetary science.

This particular specimen is a Dronino Oxide, which is the rust-colored weathering product of the main meteorite fragments. After lying buried for centuries, the iron-nickel metal reacted with the terrestrial environment to form iron oxides or rust. This transformation captures the geological process of decay and preserves the general shape of the original meteorite fragment. Owning a Dronino Oxide allows you to connect with both the cosmic origins of the iron core of an ancient asteroid and the terrestrial forces that altered it over time.

We have several of these oxidized meteorite fragments available, all similar in size and appearance. You will receive our choice from the available samples.
