Own a Piece of the Bridge That Moved Across the World!

Ever wanted to hold a piece of history that’s traveled further than most people? Now’s your chance. You’re not just looking at a piece of granite; you’re looking at a fragment of the London Bridge of 1831 — the bridge so iconic they built it in England and then shipped it to a desert in Arizona just for the fun of it.

The "New" Bridge (That’s actually quite old)

By the early 1800s, the "Old" London Bridge (the one with houses and shops on it) was falling down — just like the nursery rhyme said. To fix the traffic jams of the horse-and-buggy era, John Rennie designed a sleek, five-arch granite masterpiece. It was opened on August 1, 1831, by King William IV. Unfortunately, it was too successful! By the 1960s, it was sinking into the River Thames at a rate of an inch every eight years. London was literally "heavy" with history.

The Great Relocation of 1968

In one of history’s most "wait, they actually did that?" moments, the City of London put the bridge up for sale. Rumor had it the buyer, Robert P. McCulloch, thought he was buying the fancy Gothic "Tower Bridge." In reality, McCulloch knew exactly what he was getting. He wanted a centerpiece for his new town, Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He paid $2,460,000, then spent another $7 million to have it dismantled block by block. Every single stone was numbered, packed into crates, shipped through the Panama Canal, and trucked to the desert. It was the world's largest jigsaw puzzle!

Why This Granite is Special

These fragments are local Devon and Cornwall granite, hewn nearly 200 years ago. When you hold this stone, you’re connected to:

  • Victorian London: The millions of footsteps, carriage wheels, and fog-filled mornings of the 19th century.
  • Engineering Marvels: The transition from medieval stone-stacking to the precision of the Industrial Revolution.
  • A Grand Adventure: The 10,000-mile journey from the grey Thames to the sunny Colorado River.

Don’t let history sink! Whether you're a history buff, a geography nerd, or someone who just loves a good "believe it or not" story, this genuine piece of the 1831 London Bridge is the ultimate keepsake. Own a literal building block of British (and Arizonan) history today!
